FAQ’s - walk in bin

What size bin do I need?

This depends on the amount of waste you are disposing of. A general guide is that a 7.5 cubic metre walk in bin equates to 8  6x4 trailers, and a 15 cubic metre walk in bin equates to 16 6x4 trailers or the volume of 3 standard size elephants.

How big are the bins?

The 7.5 cubic metre walk in bin is 4.5 metres long, 2 metres wide and 1 metre tall. It holds 7.5 cubic metres of rubbish in volume.
The 15 cubic metre walk in bin is 5 metres long, 2.2 metres wide and 1.5 metres tall. It holds 15 cubic metres of rubbish in volume
(length, width and height may vary slightly from time to time).

How long can I have the bin?

Generally 5 days, longer or shorter rental can be arranged.

Where can the walk in bin go?

Most of the time the bin is delivered onto your driveway, a minimum driveway width of 2.6 metres is required and a length of up to 18 metres of driveway and road is required; this includes the room for the bin and the truck.
If you need the bin placed on your street you will need to contact your local council for approval, this may take a few days.  Signal requires written permission from the council faxed to the office before the bin can be delivered.

What can I put in the bin?

Most household rubbish is acceptable, excluding dirt, concrete, bricks, liquids and all hazardous wastes.

What can’t I put into the bin?

Hazardous waste, bricks, concrete, dirt, liquid, tyres, asbestos, mattresses, contaminated soils, gas bottles, televisions and fluro tubes, refrigerators and freezers.
Please advise us if you have any of these items so that we can arrange alternate transportation and disposal.

Are there weight restrictions?

Yes – Both 7.5 and 15m walk in bins have weight limits of up to 10,000kg.

How high can I fill the bin?

You can fill the bin to water level only. If the bin is overfull the operator may remove or require you as the customer to remove some of the material so that it is safe to transport.

When and how can I pay?

All payments are to be made on or before delivery. This can be done by EFT, credit card over the phone or payment to the driver on delivery. The contents of the walk in bins remain the property of the customer until full payment is made.
We do not accept personal checks.

How much notice do I need to book in a walk in bin?

Our office usually needs two days notice, although same day and next day services can sometimes be arranged.

Call our office and we will perform an OH&S inspection of the bin to determine if the bin needs to be replaced or if it is suitable for use.

Are there restrictions in what I can put in my bin?

Yes, depending on what type of waste stream you have each bin is specific and should be labelled for items that are able to go into the bin. As a general rule no hazardous wastes are permitted. But please ensure that you follow instruction on the specific waste stream or else this may result in contaminating a pure waste stream.

How do I move my bin?

Correct procedure for moving your bin by hand:

  1. Make sure lids are closed.
  2. Make sure bin has castors (wheels).
  3. Make sure bin has not exceeded recommended weight of 300kg.
  4. Stand at the side of the bin, where the side pockets are located.  The bin has 2 fixed castors and 2 swivel castors (ones that steer).  You must stand at the side where the swivel castors are located (the ones that steer).
  5. Position hands on bin and push, you will be able to steer bin by moving it from left to right.
